Derek Simpson, the immaculate cellist who was a mainstay of the Aeolian String Quartet for a quarter of a century, was revered as a teacher and as a player of rare sensitivity. Simpson was among the most admired chamber musicians of his generation. During almost 40 years as a professor at the Royal Academy of Music, he produced a succession of accomplished young players.

London Cello Society hosts an exploration and exposition of his teaching methods, including a forum of his former pupils. Simpson’s own performances will be heard and a short celebratory performance will finish the tribute to this legendary and inspirational teacher.
