2005/6 Season A Russian Spectacular 9th November 2005 Six of Russia’s most dazzling cellists celebrated the best of Russian cello repertoire in a day of master classes and an evening concert. The Dynamic Cellist Steven Doane, master teacher from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, shared his insights on teaching and playing the cello. Playing with Bach An extraordinary day devoted to the Solo Cello Suites with lectures, classes with Anner Bylsma and an evening concert with Colin Carr and Roel Dieltiens. 2006/7 Season Ralph Kirshbaum and Sunday 15th October 2006 A celebration of the 60th birthday of renowned cellist Ralph Kirshbaum, our Honorary President. Russian Inspiration 21st January 2007 With Leonid Gorokhov violin An afternoon with this leading soloist and chamber musician, exploring the Russian cello repertoire. Global Cello 25th February 2007 Alasdair Fraser fiddle From Brazil and Argentina to the delights of Scottish folk tunes, with some Afro- Caribbean music in between, come and explore the newest frontiers of the cello. CelloDay 2007 22nd April 2007 Our annual favourite for young musicians (grades 5-8), amateurs and observers. Classes and cello ensemble as well as a masterclass /concert with distinguished guest artist. Bonus Event 17th–18th February 2007 A recipient of the LCS 2006 Special Projects Grant, this event brings together cello players of all ages and abilities. |
2007/8 Season Princes & Poets Sunday 11th November 2007 Emmanuelle Bertrand Guests of Honour Mme Maud Tortelier and Michel Oriano A tribute honouring the French Cello School and its interpretative traditions. A day devoted to the study and performance of Elgar’s Cello Concerto.Master classes exploring the unique aspects of this celebrated work and a concert performance of the Concerto. Rob Cowan, BBC Radio 3 presenter, Keith Harvey, connoisseur and veteran record collector, and Sebastian Comberti, the innovative head
of the Cello Classics label sharing their great recordings of the cello repertoire. A celebration of spring with our annual CelloDay-- technique classes, jazz improvisation, chamber music, master classes, and our Amateurs Paradise—specially- conceived classes for adult learners. In partnership with the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, we are pleased to present PONTICELLO, a new creative music-making workshop for young string players aged 7 to 17. Explore your instrument, learn how to improvise, compose, and combine your ideas with others. No music or music stands needed! You’ll be part of a new piece created under the guidance of workshop leaders Jill Collier and Natasha Zielazinski. Observers welcome. |

2003/4 Inaugural Season A Celebration of the Cello With a stellar line-up of cellists, including Ralph Kirshbaum, Raphael Wallfisch, Paul Watkins, and rising stars Li Wei, Thomas Carroll and Guy Johnston, among others. Fascinating films of the great (and curious) cellists of the past were presented by Terry King. Pierre Fournier: A tribute to the legendary cellist with filmed performances of his Schumann Concerto and a concert of the past winners of the Fournier Award. CelloDay 2004 Our first day devoted to young cellists who enjoyed classes in Dalcroze Eurythmics, improvisation with Robin Michael and classes with Roger Smith, Susan Sheppard and Leonid Gorokhov. Young Lions Featured three remarkable young talents: Danjulo Ishizaka, Feuermann Prize; Gavriel Lipkind, Leonard Rose Prize; and Li Wei, Tchaikovsky Competition Silver Medal. A Celebrity Auction Stage and film celebrities Henry Goodman and Geoffrey Palmer joined Sotheby’s musical instrument specialist Tim Ingles for an unforgettable evening of fun and auctioneering, with the proceeds donated to the Bernard Greenhouse DVD project. Bernard Greenhouse at Wigmore Hall Renowned performer and teacher in the Casals tradition works with six of Great Britain’s finest cellists in front of the cameras. Interviewed by Ralph Kirshbaum and filmed performing the Bach C minor Sarabande, Greenhouse at age 90 is a veritable treasure. Double-length DVD available at www.celloclassics.com. Boccherini Bonanza A celebration of the life and music of Luigi Boccherini on the 200th anniversary of his death. Classes with Anner Bylsma and an evening concert with Susan Sheppard, Roel Dieltiens, and Richard Lester, playing and conducting the Boccherini Festival Orchestra. CelloDay 2005 For the first time this event welcomed amateurs alongside young players. Hannah Roberts was the guest teacher and performer.
