WEST LONDON STRINGS

A new group whose aim is to enjoy playing mainly classical music on Monday evenings meeting at St Mary's Church Hall, West Kensington

Conductor : Robin Wedderburn

No auditions; Grade 3 upwards welcome. Age 18 to 80+. Music is chosen and arranged to suit the membership. Our main aim is to experience the enjoyment of working at worthwhile music; we may find, as time goes on, that we will want our work to lead to the occasional informal concert performance. The chief aim is for the enterprise to be serious, non-pressurizing and enjoyable.

New CD release:
Baroque Cello Illuminations – shedding new light on old favourites
Angela East (baroque cello) with Howard Beach (harpsichord) and Ruth Alford (cello)
The music on this CD will be familiar to all of us:
Eccles - Sonata no 11 in G minor
DeFesch - Sonata Op 8 no 3 in D minor
Vivaldi - Sonata no 5 in E minor RV40
Couperin - ièces en Concert from Les Goûts Réunis arr. Bazelaire/East
Sammartini/Berteau - Sonata Op 1a no 3 in G major
Bach - Suite no 1 in G major BWV1007

She has designed this especially for teachers and their pupils, so that all of these popular pieces are together on one CD. Angela has a lifetime of experience as a continuo player with many of our leading baroque orchestras such as the English Baroque Soloists, King’s Consort and the Gabrieli Consort and Players. She is a founder member of the ensemble Red Priest and this CD is the fifth in the series of Red Priest Recordings. For those who know this ensemble, they will expect and discover interesting and innovative ideas, ornamentation, improvisation and a few surprises! Joined by the incorrigibly witty but profoundly musicianly Howard Beach on the harpsichord and the lively and lyrical Ruth Alford on continuo cello, this is a very special addition to the Red Priest collection.

A special discount is offered to teachers, so that they can pass the CDs on to their pupils. One CD costs £12.99 + £1 p&p but for increasing numbers the price is discounted; 5 CDs cost £50 including p&p, 10 cost £80 inclusive. Available from www.angelaeast.co.uk (Paypal) or www.redpriest.com (Credit card)
