The London Cello Society gathers international stars for a major tribute celebrating the late Mstislav Rostropovich— legendary cellist and humanitarian and the Society’s former Honorary Patron.
Slava! A Tribute to Mstislav Rostropovich will be the first significant London memorial concert -- a highlight of the concert season, not to be missed. Embracing the richness and diversity of Rostropovich’s personality, the gala programme features an evening concert of exceptional variety, along with an afternoon of films and a forum. Distinguished musical colleagues and friends have generously agreed to give their services for the occasion, and to perform works by the composers with whom Rostropovich was most closely associated – Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Penderecki and Benjamin Britten.
This tribute will also honour the humanitarian efforts of the Rostropovich-Vishnevskaya Medical Foundation, whose remarkable achievements in improving the health and well-being of children in Russia and surrounding republics have been internationally recognised. All proceeds of the event will benefit the Foundation.
